6 Fun Things to do on Eid

6 Fun Things to do on Eid

Eid is my favorite time of the year! We only get 2 holidays per year so I like to go all out with friends and family! Now that we are a family of 3, we decided to start our own traditions that we can carry through the years. Today, I’m putting together a list of 5 fun things you can do with your friends and family this Eid.

1.) Decorate your home

This you can do a couple days before Eid to get in the spirit. Consider making an Eid banner to put up under the mantle above your fireplace. Decorate with lanterns, balloons, lights and maybe even a DIY photo booth?

2.) Play games at your party

If you are having a ton of people over especially families with kids, find unique ways to keep everyone entertained by playing fun Eid themed games.

A.) Islamic themed Jeopardy

Play an Islamic themed Jeopardy game with all the kids and make sure the winning team gets a special prize! Categories can include, Quran, Prophets, Seerah, etc.

B.) Guess the Eidi in the Jar!

We had so much fun with this last year! We put a random amount of Eidi in the jar and had people guess how much was in there. After everyone made their guess we found the person closest to the correct amount and they won the entire jar!

C.) Raffle

Put the names of your guests in a raffle. At the end of the party, pick a name and give a gift! Need ideas of what to give? Check out THIS post!

3.) Gifts for Neighbors

Eid is 3 days and we like to celebrate everyday with something special. I love making Eid gift baskets for my friends and neighbors. This year for Hoda, we bought 3 separate gifts and plan to let her open one each day of Eid. We can’t wait to see her excitement! Click the picture below to see what goes in each gift basket.

4.) White Elephant Gift

In the recent years, my family has been doing an Eid gift exhange where we pick out names from a hat and are responsible for getting that person an Eid gift. This year we decided to change it up and do a White Elephant gift exchange. Every one participating gets a gift within a certain budget. On the day of Eid, we will pick numbers from a hat and whoever goes first gets their first pick of gifts. The second person can either steal the first persons’ gift or choose from the pile and so on. Below are some gift ideas!

5.) Have a Cookie/ Dessert Exchange

We can finally eat during the day! Have your guests bring their favorite dessert to enjoy with everyone. At the end of the party, take your home a goodie bag with all your favorite treats!

5.) Make your own traditions

Every year we carry out an Eid tradition like going out for breakfast after Eid prayer. It’s a family tradition that I can carry on through the years. Do something fun that your family would enjoy like let the kids pick out a toy from their favorite store, go bowling, iceskating etc.

Believe it or not, these little details are what makes a huge impression in your child’s lives. They will look back on these days and say “man those were good times” and hopefully they can carry on these traditions with their own families.
