Girls Bedroom Closet Makeover

Girls Bedroom Closet Makeover

It’s week 2 of the One Room Challenge where I am giving my daughter’s bedroom a makeover. We have already made so much progress! This week I focused on the closet which was much needed.

It was time for the standard builder grade closet to go! The main focus for this closet was accessibility. My daughter is only 5 and the existing closet did not allow her to pick her own clothes and dress herself. The dresser in the room was full and hard to keep organized so we needed to find a solution that will allow easy access to clothes and better storage solutions.

Before

First, I started off with removing this wire shelving. While taking it down, I realized it leaves massive holes in the wall so I needed to patch that up immediately using drywall paste. After smoothing out the walls, we’re ready for the star of the show! WALLPAPER!

Tempaper kindly sent us rolls of wallpaper to use for this closet makeover. I went with Queen Emma by She She print which is the perfect shade of pink and just the right amount of design for this space. It is a removable wallpaper and easy to install. All you need is a scraper and precision knife.

Peel and stick wallpaper is easy to work with because if you mess up on the placement you can just peel it off and try again. Use the scraper to smooth out any bubbles and you have the perfect base. Tempaper has 100s of designs to choose from so be sure to check them out for your next project!

Next up, my friend came over to help build the shelving unit for the closet. We picked up this set from The Home Depot. The unit comes with the base and 3 rods. The shelves are sold separately but I only purchased 1 shelf and used leftover material in my garage for the remaining shelves.

Things to remember:

  • Always mount the closet system to the wall. You don’t want it falling over for any reason
  • Measure the distance of the hanger from the wall before installing the rods.
  • Place the rods at the height your kids can reach. They are adjustable so when they grow up, you can move them up.

I knew I wanted more shelving for things like out of season clothing, suitcases, shoes etc. so I added two shelves to the top left.

I found these cute baskets to go on the middle shelves. They house swimming clothes, PJ’s and out of season clothing. To display her cute shoes, I got this basket.

Having an organization system is crucial for kids. It helps them to stay organized because they know everything has a place. Making it accessible gives them the independence to do so. We are so happy with how the closet turned out. My daughter’s favorite part is that it’s pink thanks to Tempaper!
