Renovation Challenge Week 2

Renovation Challenge Week 2

It’s week 2 of the Jeffery Court Renovation Challenge and we’ve made some progress! Also voting starts NOW so don’t forget to vote for me!

To kick start the makeover, the first project I decided to tackle was re painting the kitchen cabinets. After 20 years of wear and tear, the cabinets were becoming yellow so it was time to brighten it up. I am not going bold with the cabinet colors this time so I gave it a fresh coat of white paint.

I started off by using a degreaser to get all the dust and grime off the doors and cabinet bases. This process took an entire day because there was SO much grease collected from over the years. My arms and officially sore but hey at least I got a workout in!

After the cabinets were cleaned, I used a 400 grit sandpaper to lightly sand the cabinets. This ensures that the paint will stick to the cabinet.  Next, I used Behr Ultra White and started painting the cabinets. You can see the color difference which is shocking!

I used a small angled paint brush and a foam roller to get an even coat. I could have used a paint sprayer and painted it all in one shot but I did not feel like emptying my cabinets and taking apart 40 cabinet doors.

I waited a day until all the paint was dried and then I used a polyurethane in a matte finish to seal the cabinets. This will just seal the paint, prevent it from chipping and will allow easy clean if it gets dirty. The kitchen already looks brand new and fresh just by re-painting the cabinets!

Now that the hard part is done, the thing that will completely change the look of the cabinets is the hardware. I ordered cabinet knobs and drawer pulls from Home Depot and I am OBSESSED! The previous knobs are silver and I am changing it to a champagne bronze color!

In just a week, we made some serious progress. Next up for this renovation challenge is a feature kitchen Island and vertical wood slat wall! Be sure to follow along on Instagram for the step by step and don’t forget to VOTE FOR ME!
