Kitchen Makeover Week 3

Kitchen Makeover Week 3

Decision Time

It’s week 3 of the kitchen makeover and last week, I finished painting the cabinets with a fresh coat of white paint. I added champagne gold hardware to the cabinets and drawers to change up the look completely. The original kitchen looked like it was stuck in the early 2000’s and so far so good!

This week, because the kitchen project is so big, I wanted to focus on figuring out the accent for the island and oven cabinet. The look for the kitchen is all white and hints of gold finishes. I want to break up all that white with some wood tones. I ran over to Home Depot to see if I can find unique wood trim for the accent. I’ve always loved the idea of wooden slat wall and the oven cabinet might be the perfect spot for it.

I grabbed a bunch of ¼” 1×2 poplar wood panels to see what it would look like together and I have to say I think I LOVE IT! The other idea is a fluted wall look. This is where I would get a molding trim and put them together for a more fluted look.

Here are the two options. What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

Before I can install the accent wood trim, we need to rip out the floors! The baseboards under the cabinets need to be taken out and once the new tile is laid, we can add the baseboards plus the trim.

The tile just arrived so it’s go time! Be sure to check back next week to see the demo process! Ahh! It’s so nerve wracking ripping out perfectly good flooring but I’m excited to get one step closer to my dream kitchen!
