Kitchen Renovation | Demo Week

Kitchen Renovation | Demo Week

We’re more than half way through the renovation challenge and OMG, this is the moment where I’m wondering what I got myself into! We have put off the tiling for way too long and finally my dad and I demo-d the floors. It is by no means an easy task.

Remember when I said this house is my childhood home? Well, my dad actually tiled the kitchen floors a few years back for the second time and this is the third. Last 2 times ago, he installed heat wires under the tiles so in the winter we would have heated floors. The challenge with this has been making sure we rip out the floors enough to remove the old tile and mortar but not too much where we split the wires beneath. So things have been super slow.

Demo Week!

Initially I was using a hammer and chisel to remove the mortar but we don’t have 3 years so we upgraded to an air chisel that is powered by a compressor. This helped move along the process much quicker.

We removed all the tiles in the kitchen and now the most tedious part is removing all the mortar. Here is a sneak pee of what the tiles are looking like on the floors! I am so excited for it to come together!

See you next week!
