Entryway Refresh Reveal

Entryway Refresh Reveal

It’s been 3 months since we moved into our new home and we’ve been spending every free minute upgrading the space to fit our family and style!

The entryway is such an important space in the house because it’s the first space you will see when you walk in. It will set the tone for the rest of the house. Knowing this, I had to go bold with the design and color scheme.

It’s no secret that paint can transform any space and it requires very minimal effort. HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams makes it even easier with its color collections. The Color Collections are expertly coordinated so every color will work in harmony and tie everything together in a room.

For the entryway, I needed to paint the interior of the front door and I knew I wanted to go with a neutral color with a hint of something. I went online, picked a Color Collection called Neutral Nuance and chose the color that best fit what I was looking for within that collection. I landed on HGSW3265 Escape Gray. You can also upload a picture of your space, pick a color and visualize what it will look like before you purchase using the online Color Visualizer

I went with this color in the Ovation Plus Interior Paint & Primer in the high-gloss finish. The best part about the Ovation Plus is that it has amazing coverage and zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and is available at your local Lowe’s

When I brought home the paint and tried it on the door, I was immediately obsessed with the color. It’s the perfect amount of gray with a hint of sage green and I knew it would pop against the GIANT 7ft mirror I was planning to build. Before I got started on the painting, I prepped my floors with a plastic tarp to prevent any paint spills. I did not tape around the door knob or hinges because I felt experienced enough to paint freehanded, but I would definitely recommend the extra step so you can get clean paint lines and not have to wipe down the mistakes.

A few things to keep in mind when painting doors:

  1. Always select a high sheen when painting doors. You want to be able to easily wipe off scuff marks and a high gloss finish will be able to ensure that.
  2. Start the painting with a small paint brush and get inside those grooves that a roller won’t be able to get into. This includes around the doorknob, hinges and detailing on the door.
  3. Use a foam roller to smooth out the brush strokes. Make sure to press gently on the roller to get even paint distribution.

It took me about 40 minutes to paint the door after I put the kids to bed. When I woke up the next morning, I was extremely happy with the result!

The entryway refresh is officially done and I am IN LOVE with how it turned out! You can’t miss that giant mirror in the entryway- and paired with the freshly painted door, it’s a match made in heaven!
