Fireplace Refresh Feat HGTV® Home by Sherwin-Williams 2022 Color Collection of the Year

I did it, I finally gave my fireplace wall a refresh. I have been dying to paint this red wall since we moved in 8 months ago.

If you’re new here, you may not know that I bought my childhood home earlier this year. It has been bittersweet changing everything my parents did to this home but it feels great knowing this home will be loved by my children and hopefully generations to come.

This fireplace wall was painted a dark red by my dad over 10 years ago. I remember we rented a scaffold to tackle this project because of the 20ft+ ceilings. As lovely as it was for my parents, it is definitely not the look I am going for so it’s time to change it!

When HGTV® Home by Sherwin-Williams came out with their new 2022 Color Collection of the Year “Softened Refuge,” I knew I had the perfect place for it. I chose the color Alabaster (HGSW4031) for the main color of the wall and the entire house. After painting the wall, the house looked 10x bigger. Crazy what a little bit of paint can do!

This next part is my favorite! I haven’t seen many colored fireplace surrounds/mantles so I took a little risk and painted it. I went with “Retreat” (HGSW3283) from the Color Collection and WOW, what a statement! Painting the fireplace surround was the perfect way to add warmth to a large space.

I am so happy with the new look of the family room! It finally fits with the rest of the house and will set the tone for when I go shopping for furniture and decor.
